Church and Society
The Newburg Church and Society Committee seeks to educate, advocate, and implement action toward social justice. We encourage Newburg Methodist Church members to respond to critical social issues such as:
- poverty
- children's welfare
- human rights
- health
- nurturing communities for all persons
- peace with justice
- environmental stewardship
The Church and Society committee has actively pursued these goals with four specific actions.
- educating Newburg parishioners by publishing in the Newburg newsletter summaries of positions of the United Methodist Church on key social principles
- facilitating an annual letter writing campaign to U.S. Senators and Representatives in support of Bread for the World
- obtaining adoption of the use of Fair Trade coffee at all official Newburg functions
- actively promoting recycling at Newburg functions
