Rev. David Markay
The Markays serve with the Lithuanian Methodists in Kaunas as they seek to reclaim the Methodist presence and properties lost in the 1940's under communist rule. They represent Christ through the John Wesley Christian Perfection doctrine, helping in the leadership of worship and devotion, teaching and preaching, administering the sacraments, offering administrative guidance, facilitating Volunteers in Mission (VIM) experiences, and offering pastoral care and support to other Lithuanian Methodist congregations as they seek to reestablish themselves.
Mr. Markay reflects about his call to a ministry of service: "God has blessed me with experiences and people along my journey of faith which have shown me that people of different traditions, cultures and races all can reveal the face of Christ. I have been shaped by experiences in New Jersey, Ohio, North Carolina, Appalachia, Europe and Haiti. In fact, it was while living abroad, when after an eight year period of wrestling with God, I decided to answer the call to the ordained ministry. As Kristin, Hannah and I serve with the Lithuanian Christians, I trust that God will help us learn from one another how to live as faithful Christians."
A native of New Jersey and the Northern New Jersey Annual Conference, Dave received a B. A. in international studies from Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA, with a year of his study at the Dickinson Center for European Studies in Bologna, Italy. He did studies in education and pastoral care at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, and received his Masters of Divinity from Duke Divinity School, Durham, NC. Dave has served pastoral appointments in Ohio and with the Goole Methodist Circuit in Goole, England.
He and his wife, Kristin, have one daughter, Hannah. Their home conference is the West Ohio Annual Conference.
