UMW logo United Methodist Women

Our Purpose

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

UMW Pledge

Sowing the seeds of mission has long been the emphasis of United Methodist Women and its predecessor organizations. Our commitment to tend those seeds is an important part of the Pledge each of us make.

Pledges are used by the UMW District Board in oversea mission programs, underwriting local training programs and by our Newburg UMW to provide programs, third grade bibles, confirmation brunch, donations to our scholarship program, Ministry Jubilee and Greenthumbers.

Circles

Rebekah Circle
Chairperson: Margaret Walker
Program Director: Wanda Britton
Devotions: Judy Michelis
Newburg's only evening circle meets the second Wednesday of each month in the West end of Gutherie Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. We have a variety of programs and mission projects. We dine out together 3 times a year.
Rebekah's Day-A-Way
Rebekah Circle members schedule trips or workshops for you to enjoy and have a day or two to just be you. Two have already become yearly events. Consider these opportunities to enjoy the company of other women and to just relax and have fun.
Chicago at Christmas
The first Thursday of December we board the train in Dearborn for Chicago, IL for a day of shopping and fellowship. The city is beautifully decorated for the holidays and the train ride is a great time to relax and visit with others.
Shipshewanna, Indiana
We reserve the entire Atwater Farm B and B. We visit the Shipshewanna Flea Market, local shops, Das Essenhaus and dine together at Tiffanys. Great fun!

Ruth Circle
Chairperson: Susan Hitchcock
Ruth Circle meets the third Wednesday of each month in the church parlor at 9:30 a.m. The focus of this circle is on missions projects. Some project examples are: stuffing Love Pillows for children in hospitals, cutting Campbell soup labels for Red Bird missions, cooking dinner for our homeless guests.

Members at Large
Women who prefer not to belong to a specific circle but would like to attend programs of interest to them or participate in a Mission Program may join as a Member at Large with the same privileges and responsibilities.
